Community support prompts speed limit chage
A petition to change speed limits on the outskirts of Elliston has been successful, with speed limits set to decrease on the Flinders Highway.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has advised that the speed limit will be changed to 60 kilometres per hour from the Anxious Bay road turnoff to the Liberty Roadhouse, the northern approach to the town.
Member for Flinders Peter Treloar lodged a petition containing 182 signatures in the State Parliament in March this year, organised by the District Council of Elliston.
“I was in agreement with the request from the District Council of Elliston, and believe the speed decrease would make the area safer for drivers and pedestrians alike,” Mr Treloar said.
Elliston has noticed a major increase in traffic flow to and from the developing Waterloo Bay Estate, Jetty Precinct, Elliston Caravan Park, Lookout and Anxious Bay turnoff.
This is in addition to changes approved earlier in the year, which relate to the removal of an 80kph buffer zone and the installation of 60 Ahead signs on the eastern approach, and the installation of 80 Ahead signs on the western approach to Elliston.
