EP water resources on Parliament’s radar

The Parliament’s Natural Resources Committee will conduct an inquiry into water supply on Eyre Peninsula, with Liberal Member for Flinders Peter Treloar advocating for a comprehensive review of our water resources.

The terms of reference for the inquiry refer to surface water, groundwater, reticulated River Murray water, stormwater, wastewater, and rainwater.

“This inquiry will look into how local water resources such as freshwater lenses are managed,” Mr Treloar said.

“There appears to be a knowledge gap in terms of the geology, function and interaction of the various underground lenses on the Eyre Peninsula.

“We also need to recognise an increase in demand is likely.

“The Committee will also examine the legislative framework for the management of water resources in the region.

“Water security remains one of the most important issues for the communities of Flinders, so this inquiry will also give people the opportunity to discuss the future water demand and supply options.”
