The State Liberals have introduced a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to change the boundaries of the Weatherill Labor Government’s marine park sanctuary zones.
The Bill – introduced by Shadow Environment Minister Michelle Lensink in the Legislative Council yesterday – proposes to exclude some of the government’s marine park sanctuary zones from taking effect on October 1 this year in their current form.
Liberal Member for Flinders Peter Treloar said many members of the Eyre Peninsula and West Coast community had raised concerns about the marine park boundaries.
“We understand the adverse effects that will be felt by regional communities if these marine parks are implemented in their current form,” Mr Treloar said.
“The State Liberals support marine parks, but not the boundaries proposed by the Weatherill Labor Government.
“This is an important issue for the EP and West Coast community, who have been neglected by the Weatherill Labor Government for 12 years.
“Unlike the Weatherill Labor Government, the State Liberals will continue listening to the concerns of South Australians and will continue to stand up for our regions.”
